In brief
Participants from 13 countries competed to imitate seagull sounds and styles at the fifth annual European Gull Scream Championship in De Panne, Belgium.
In the small Belgian town of De Panne, the air was alive with the sounds of seagull imitators during the fifth European Gull Scream Championship. Onlookers enjoyed the spectacle as 70 participants from 13 nations showed off their best seagull impressions. Not only did they focus on sound, but they also donned flamboyant costumes, complete with faux feathers, beaks, and intricate wings made from capes.Denmark's Anna Brynald emerged as the star of the show, winning the adult category. Sporting white-and-yellow face paint and a feather boa, Anna practiced her impressive skills in front of the mirror and even with real gulls. “Sea gulls are free — fly with the dream and the sea gull,” she declared, emphasizing the charm of these often-misunderstood birds.Aside from mimicking sounds, contestants showcased creativity by incorporating props during their performances, such as pretending to feed themselves while maintaining their gull-like antics. This feels less like a contest and more like a joyous celebration of the beautiful yet misunderstood creatures that are seagulls!
