Zidane Is France’s New Head Coach

64‑year‑old former player turned manager Zinedine Zidane has taken charge of the France national football team after Didier Deschamps steps down post‑World Cup. He will lead the Les Bleus through the 2030 World Cup qualifying campaign.


A former World Cup winner and three‑time Champions League victor with Real Madrid, Zidane’s appointment comes after a 14‑year reign for Deschamps. France exited the World Cup semi‑final on penalties against Spain.

Zidane guided Real Madrid to three straight Champions League titles (2016‑19), plus La Liga wins and a record European club performance.

From his golden days at Juventus, through a 1998 World Cup win, to the infamous 2006 final, Zidane’s legacy spans both club and country.


Zidane’s first game as coach is in the Nations League match against Turkey on 25 September.
