In brief
Alex Davis, a dive instructor in Barbados, unearths a gold McMaster University ring lost for almost five decades, reconnecting it with its original owner.
In a quiet corner of the Caribbean, dive instructor Alex Davis made an incredible find while exploring the ocean floor off Barbados. With his trusty metal detector, this UK-native was diving when he stumbled upon a unique treasure — a gold graduation ring from McMaster University, dated 1965. What started like any other day quickly turned exhilarating for Davis. As he kicked away sand and rocks, he heard the unmistakable sound signifying he had found gold. "I felt like Sméagol from 'The Lord of the Rings,'" he reminisced, showcasing his joy as he revealed the ring's stunning design, featuring a lustrous garnet stone. Intrigued, he noticed initials inscribed inside: FMP. Certain these belonged to the original owner, Davis didn't waste time. He reached out to McMaster University's alumni association, hoping to reunite the ring with its long-lost owner. After nearly 50 years, a cherished piece of history had resurfaced, showing that treasures truly can be found in the most unexpected places!
