The woman was part of a guided rafting trip in Briançon when the accident occurred around noon on Saturday. After falling into the water and being found unresponsive on the riverbank, she was airlifted to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries later that evening.

Authorities have confirmed her nationality but have not released her name. An investigation into involuntary manslaughter has been launched, and an autopsy is planned.

This incident marks a tragic reminder that while the Guisane and nearby Durance rivers are popular for their thrilling rapids during summer, they can pose significant risks, especially after heavy snowmelt. The Foreign Office is in contact with French officials regarding this unfortunate event.
