In brief
A day before a proposed three-day cease-fire, Russia and Ukraine continued their aerial assaults, resulting in casualties in Kyiv and a broken peace offer as both sides prepare for a pivotal moment marked by Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.
Despite a proposed cease-fire by Russia for the commemoration of World War II, attacks continued between Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday. A drone strike in Kyiv resulted in two deaths and several injuries, including four children. President Zelensky of Ukraine criticized the cease-fire as inadequate for meaningful peace talks, claiming it was a tactic to placate international guests attending the nearby Victory Day parade in Moscow.Ahead of the commemorative events, a Ukrainian drone had previously struck Moscow, disrupting air traffic. In retaliation, air defenses in Kyiv worked vigorously to intercept incoming missiles, with reports of fires and property damage throughout the city. Further drone incidents occurred in southern Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing volatility as both nations gear up for high-stakes observances while conflict rages on.
