In brief

A coalition of gangs called Viv Ansanm has threatened further chaos, forcing airport closures and increasing fatalities.

Haiti finds itself in a state of heightened turmoil as gang leaders threaten violence and follow through with their promises. The notorious gang leader, Joseph Wilson, known as Lanmou Sanjou, declared that people would "pay the consequences" for being reckless in the streets. This ominous warning came from Viv Ansanm, a group recently infamous for terrorizing Port-au-Prince. Their threats quickly materialized as three U.S. aircraft were shot at, prompting the immediate closure of Toussaint Louverture International Airport and grounding humanitarian flights. The fallout from these events has also hit emergency responders hard; Dr. Deborah Pierre, a prominent urologist, was tragically shot while getting into her car, while her father sustained injuries. The situation escalated further as Doctors Without Borders reported that their team was attacked by a vigilante mob, with suspected gang members among those being ferried in an ambulance. Amidst fear and uncertainty, the Federal Aviation Administration has suspended all U.S. flights to Haiti for 30 days, leaving many passengers stranded. The dreadful conditions indicate that the crisis in Haiti is now much worse than before.
