Rescue operations are ongoing in Chile as teams work hard to save four miners trapped after a mine collapse caused by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake. The incident occurred at the El Teniente copper mine, roughly 70 km southeast of Santiago. Rescuers have already discovered the remains of one miner. While they work diligently to locate the remaining miners, the families of those missing have been informed.

The geological tremor on Thursday triggered the collapse of the mine’s underground tunnels. Codelco, the state-owned mining company operating El Teniente, confirmed that intense rescue efforts are underway. The mine is renowned as the largest underground copper mine globally and is situated deep in the Andes mountains. Rescuers are employing heavy machinery to navigate debris and hope to access the trapped miners at a pace of 15-20 meters daily.
