In an extraordinary auction at Henry Aldridge and Son in Wiltshire, a handwritten letter by Titanic passenger Colonel Archibald Gracie was sold for a staggering £300,000, five times its estimated value of £60,000. Dated 10 April 1912, just five days before tragedy struck, the letter is seen as "prophetic." Gracie expressed that he would "await my journey's end" concerning the Titanic, which had just set sail for New York from Southampton.
The letter, written from cabin C51, was posted while the ship stopped in Queenstown, Ireland, and is remembered as the highest-priced correspondence linked to the Titanic. Gracie, who survived the sinking by clinging to an overturned lifeboat in freezing waters, later authored the book *The Truth About The Titanic*, detailing his harrowing experience. Although he survived, Gracie’s health severely declined afterward, leading to his death shortly after the disaster due to complications.
