In brief
Starting in June 2025, single-use vapes will be banned in England as part of a government initiative targeting young users and reducing environmental waste.
The UK government has unveiled plans to prohibit disposable vapes in England starting June 2025, aiming to safeguard the health of young people and lessen environmental impact. Andrew Gwynne, the public health and prevention minister, highlighted that single-use vapes, often attractively packaged, have become increasingly popular among youth. The government estimates that around five million of these vapes are thrown away weekly in Britain. The proposed legislation, which requires parliamentary approval, aims to prevent harmful materials like plastic, lead, and mercury from entering the ecosystem and to address issues related to lithium-ion battery disposal. Mary Creagh, the environment minister, expressed concerns that these vapes contribute to environmental pollution and emphasized the initiative as a step toward fighting the country's “throwaway culture.”
