In brief

Lil Durk's arrest for a murder-for-hire charge has sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community as the rapper is linked to a shooting case tied to his group's past.

Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk, known for hits like “All My Life,” was arrested in Broward County, Florida, facing a murder-for-hire charge. He is currently being held without bail. This startling news comes just a day after five associates from his hip-hop group, Only The Family (OTF), were indicted for a 2022 shooting that took the life of rival rapper Quando Rondo's cousin. Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, has enjoyed significant success with six Billboard top-five albums since 2019 and collaborations with stars like J Cole and Drake. The 33-year-old artist founded OTF in 2010, becoming a prominent figure in Chicago’s drill rap scene. Allegations are surfacing that the indicted men orchestrated the shooting as retaliation for the 2020 death of fellow rapper King Von, with an unnamed conspirator reportedly offering "money and lucrative music opportunities" to those willing to kill Quando Rondo. Notably, a shooting in which Quando Rondo was involved left his cousin dead, although both he and his sister escaped unharmed.Previously, Lil Durk faced charges, including attempted murder in 2019, which were ultimately dropped. Currently, the rapper's team has not commented on the recent arrest, but the situation develops as legal battles and controversies continue to cloud his career.
