In the early hours of the morning, several prisons in France experienced a shocking wave of attacks, prompting a strong response from the government. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin revealed that facilities faced "intimidation attempts," including vehicle arson and gunfire, notably in Toulon. Reports indicate that cars were set ablaze in several prison car parks, while a prison in Toulon was fired upon with automatic weapons. A total of six prisons were mentioned: Toulon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Valence, Nîmes, Luynes, Villepinte, and Nanterre.
In a message posted on X, Darmanin announced his intention to visit Toulon to show solidarity with the prison staff. Although he refrained from directly blaming specific groups for the attacks, he assured the public that the French government is implementing strategies aimed at significantly disrupting criminal networks. As the nation grapples with these alarming developments, the focus remains on enhancing security around these institutions.
