In brief

A slow-moving storm has caused devastating floods in Oklahoma and Texas, with two confirmed deaths and more rain forecasted, leading to warnings of additional flash flooding.

A strong storm system has unleashed torrential rain across Oklahoma and Texas, leading to significant flooding and road closures. The National Weather Service reports that the region should brace for more storms, raising concerns over flash floods. On Wednesday, heavy downpours overwhelmed parts of Oklahoma, causing a vehicle to be swept off the road in Pottawatomie County. Following rescue efforts, a sheriff's deputy became trapped but was later hospitalized as the driver sadly lost their life. In another tragic incident in Lincoln County, a second person drowned when their car was caught in floodwaters. Over the past two days, some areas received up to eight inches of rain in Oklahoma, while Texas experienced up to six inches. Forecasters warn that more rain, possibly exceeding two inches in some areas, may fall at rates of one to two inches per hour, leading to severe potential flooding crises Thursday evening and overnight.
