In brief

Hadi's experience highlights the importance of survival skills and the resilience of the human spirit in the wild.

In a remarkable story of survival, 23-year-old Hadi Nazari was found alive after being lost for 13 days in the Kosciuszko National Park, located roughly 240 miles south of Sydney. The hiker embarked on his trip around Boxing Day, December 26, but went off the trail and failed to meet up with his friends at a designated campground. Concerned, his friends contacted authorities when he didn't return as expected.Over 400 searchers worked tirelessly on the ground and in the air for more than a week, fueled by hope that Hadi was still alive. His skills as an experienced hiker were critical, as he had only two granola bars and water from rivers and creeks to sustain him during his ordeal. Clues from the search included the discovery of his camping gear and personal items like rubbish and a lighter, which provided insight into his whereabouts. Finally, on January 3, rescuers received a break when a group of hikers spotted Hadi near Blue Lake, approximately six miles from where he started his journey. Calling out for help, he revealed he was lost and thirsty. Emergency services were notified, and Hadi was quickly airlifted for medical evaluation. His incredible survival story serves to remind us of the unexpected challenges that wilderness adventures can present.
