In brief
Trade tensions ease as both nations find common ground on key issues.
In a fresh twist in U.S.-China relations, President Trump declared that a deal has been reached after two days of discussions in London. The agreement aims to relieve some of the trade penalties that have burdened both economies recently, as Trump shared on social media, proclaiming “Our deal with China is done!” Under the new terms, China will loosen its grip on the supply of rare earth minerals and essential magnets needed by American manufacturers. In exchange, the U.S. will ease visa regulations for Chinese students and lift some export limits. While details remain scant, the commitment from both sides signals a possible thawing in previously escalating tensions. This recent development follows months of economic strain, which began with Trump imposing broad tariffs in April, threatening businesses and potentially leading to shortages in American retail. However, despite the progress, tariffs will remain in place for now, with no further meetings arranged to build on this agreement. Experts warn that while the deal could halt further escalations, it doesn’t signify a comprehensive new trade pact.
