In brief

Amid his Southeast Asia visit, Macron downplays a video appearing to show his wife shoving him playfully, labeling the ensuing reactions as disinformation and nonsense.

Article Text:As French President Emmanuel Macron wrapped up his recent trip to Vietnam, a playful interaction with his wife, Brigitte, has sparked considerable buzz online. Just as Macron deplaned in Hanoi, a video captured Brigitte playfully pushing him in the face, leaving him momentarily surprised before he waved to cameras. In response to the viral clip, Macron humorously described their bickering as "normal" for the couple. He expressed disbelief at the exaggerated interpretations, calling them “nonsense,” while warning against the disinformation spread by “crazy people” in recent weeks. Macron insisted that yes, the clip was real, but the theories surrounding it were utterly fabricated. This is not the first time Macron has faced social media speculation. Earlier, a harmless tissue in a video from his train journey in Ukraine was falsely labeled as a drug-related item. His team even issued a statement emphasizing the malicious nature of such rumors being propagated by detractors. Adding to the drama, Macron pointed out absurd claims stemming from a lingering handshake with Turkish President Erdogan, insisting they were far from reality.Despite being dismissed by Macron, the video incited heated discussions amongst conservative commentators in France, who suggested it signified deeper issues within the Marcon marriage dynamics. Nevertheless, Macron urged everyone to focus on real news instead. As the discussion continues, one thing is clear: while the moments in question may seem light-hearted, the interpretations highlight the volatile nature of political life in the age of social media.
