In brief
In response to international outcry, Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar emphasizes prioritizing friendly diplomatic relations.
Israel has taken a bold diplomatic step by closing its embassy in Dublin, Ireland, citing what it deems "extreme anti-Israel policies" from the Irish government. This action follows Ireland's announcement to support South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, where allegations of genocide against Palestinians have been made. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, newly appointed and advocating for a more assertive diplomatic stance, remarked, “Ireland has crossed every red line in relations with Israel.” He made it clear that while Israel's diplomatic ties with Ireland remain, they will focus on building connections with countries that are supportive of Israel’s stance. In a strategic move to solidify relations with friendly nations, Saar also announced the opening of a new Israeli embassy in Moldova, underlining Israel’s intent to foster partnerships that align with its national interests.
