Gérard Depardieu, the renowned French actor, has been convicted of sexually assaulting two women while filming “Les Volets Verts” in 2021. The court in Paris sentenced him to 18 months, suspended, and added him to the sex offender registry.
The women involved, a set decorator identified only as Amélie and a 34-year-old assistant director, described alarming incidents during the filming. Amélie, now 54, reported that Depardieu physically grabbed her and made obscene comments while assaulting her. The assistant director recounted being groped multiple times by Depardieu as she guided him from his dressing room to set.
Although the 76-year-old actor denied the allegations, inconsistencies in his testimony were noted during the trial. This conviction not only puts a spotlight on the actor's behavior but also raises critical issues about the safety of women within the film industry.
