In brief
After years of struggle, love wins in Thailand as hundreds celebrate their unions legally.
In an uplifting ceremony in Bangkok, same-sex couples finally had their moment as Thailand celebrated the legalization of same-sex marriage. This move marks Thailand as the third country in Asia to usher in this important change. Phanlavee Chongtangsattam and Rungtiwa Thangkanopast, a couple who faced rejection a decade ago, were among the hundreds who registered their marriages during a mass wedding event at Siam Paragon shopping mall.Rungtiwa expressed her excitement, saying, “For 20 years, we have loved each other and have had to hide from society’s disapproval. But now we can stand proudly.” The event, hosted by Naruemit Pride, featured beautiful pink floral decorations and was attended by delighted officials and media, all celebrating love's victory. Each couple was individually recognized and legally wed, marking a historic day for the LGBTQ+ community in Thailand.
