In brief
Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin's dream holiday took a dark turn when a woman's corpse was put next to them on their flight. They called for better airline protocols for such traumatic situations, while Qatar Airways expressed regret for the incident.
An Australian couple flying with Qatar Airways had a shocking experience when the body of a deceased passenger was placed next to them mid-flight. Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were traveling from Melbourne to Doha en route to Venice when a woman collapsed in the aisle. Despite the flight attendants' immediate response, the woman sadly passed away. Instead of moving Mr. Ring to a vacant seat, cabin crew placed the covered corpse beside him for the remaining four-hour journey. While Ms. Colin managed to sit elsewhere, Mr. Ring expressed dismay at not being offered a similar option, highlighting the need for a "duty of care" from airlines in such distressing situations. Both passengers reported feeling traumatized, advocating for better protocols for passenger support during emergencies. Qatar Airways has since issued an apology and stated they are reaching out to affected passengers, reiterating their sympathies for the woman's family. A Qantas representative emphasized that such incidents are managed by the operating airline, in this case, Qatar Airways.
