Chile has proactively issued a tsunami warning after a significant earthquake rocked the southern coast. The earthquake, recorded at a magnitude of 7.4, occurred 219 kilometers (136 miles) off Ushuaia, Argentina, at 1:58 PM local time, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.

The alert particularly affects the remote Magallanes region and has prompted the Chilean President, Gabriel Boric, to urge evacuations along the coastline, emphasizing the need for safety. "We call for evacuation of the coastline throughout the Magallanes region,” he stated on social media.

The country’s disaster agency has provided guidance for residents, asking them to remain calm and adhere to directives from local authorities and emergency services. They’re advising people to move to areas at least 30 meters above sea level as a safety measure.

While no significant damage has been reported yet, aftershocks are being felt in the area. This remains a developing story, and updates will continue as more information becomes available.
