In a tragic incident on Wednesday morning, at least 21 individuals lost their lives in a catastrophic road accident in central Mexico. According to Samuel Aguilar Pala, a local government official, the collision occurred on the highway linking Cuacnopalan and Oaxaca in Puebla state. Initial reports indicate that 18 victims perished at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries in hospitals.
The crash involved a tanker truck, a passenger bus, and a van. Eyewitness accounts suggest that chaos ensued when the cement truck attempted to overtake the van, leading to a head-on collision with the bus and the subsequent crash into a ravine, setting the vehicle ablaze. Videos circulating on social media depict thick clouds of smoke rising from the ravine, along with extensive damage to the highway's railings.
This tragic event is part of a concerning trend, as Mexico has witnessed several severe roadway accidents in recent years. Earlier this year, a bus crash in Tabasco resulted in numerous fatalities, further emphasizing the urgent need for improved road safety measures in the country.
