Süddeutsches in Cannes had quite a dramatic end. A suspected act of sabotage cut off power for around 160,000 homes just as the festival was wrapping up. Early Saturday, a substation in Tanneron was set ablaze by arsonists, and later, attackers damaged a pylon near Villeneuve-Loubet, leading to a second outage. Fortunately, festival organizers had alternative power sources ready, ensuring the closing ceremony went on as planned.

However, local businesses faced the brunt of the outage. Laurent Aboukrat, a restaurant owner, expressed frustration as fridges went dark. Amid the chaos, Australian producer Darren Vukasinovic described Cannes as being in "crisis territory," with places out of coffee and croissants. Despite the setbacks, the festival proceeded, culminating in the announcement of this year’s Palme d'Or winner by actress Juliette Binoche and her jury.
