A dachshund named Valerie has captured hearts as she continues to survive alone on Kangaroo Island, Australia, a year after escaping from her pen. The drama began in November 2023 when Valerie's owners took her on vacation but she bolted into the bush. Despite a frantic five-day search by her family and locals, they eventually had to leave without her.

Recently, it has been confirmed that Valerie is alive and well after being spotted 10 miles from where she went missing, thanks to her distinct pink collar. Locals and wildlife rescuers are working tirelessly to bring her back home, but Valerie has become skilled at evading capture, darting away from people and vehicles.

Using surveillance cameras and various trapping methods, rescue teams are narrowing down her location. Jared, a member of the Kangala Wildlife Rescue team, remained hopeful, stating in an update that they have consistently received fresh sightings. Valerie's owner, Georgia Gardner, expressed amazement at her survival, noting the challenges the little dog must face, such as weather conditions.

Though dachshunds may not be built for extreme outdoor challenges, they can be surprisingly resilient. As the story unfolds, the community watches with bated breath to see if Valerie can finally be brought home.
