In brief
Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Yemen’s main international airport, destroying the last aircraft used by the Iran-backed Houthi militia as part of ongoing retaliation for missile attacks.
In a significant escalation of conflict, Israeli warplanes have bombed Yemen’s main international airport, Sana, destroying the only aircraft used by the Iran-backed Houthi militia. This follows repeated missile attacks by the Houthis against Israel, which they claim are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and the airport's director, Khaled al-Shaief, the latest strike completely obliterated the plane, which was crucial for transporting over 20 million Yemenis in Houthi-controlled territories. The airport has already faced substantial damage from an earlier Israeli attack this month, causing flights to be suspended for over a week. The conflict between Israel and the Houthis has intensified, with the Houthi militia firing rockets and drones towards Israel, prompting sirens and military responses across the region. Despite the chaos, Israeli forces reported intercepting all Houthi missiles this week, underscoring the fraught situation in the Middle East.
