The Palazzo Maffei, an Italian museum, is making a heartfelt plea to visitors to respect art after an incident where a couple accidentally destroyed a stunning crystal-covered chair. A video released by the museum captures the moment when the man, attempting to take a picture, slipped and fell onto the 'Van Gogh' chair adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. The couple reportedly fled before staff could address the situation, prompting museum officials to involve the police.

Museum director Vanessa Carlon expressed frustration, stating, "Sometimes we lose our brains to take a picture and don't think about the consequences." While she acknowledged that the act was accidental, the couple’s quick exit raised concerns about responsibility.

The damaged artwork, created by Italian artist Nicola Bolla, is a tribute to Van Gogh's iconic chair. Its fragile structure, primarily hollow and held together by foil, was a warning to visitors not to touch. Despite breaking two legs and the main seat, the museum was able to restore the chair, which remains an integral part of their 650-piece collection.

Carlotta Menegazzo, an art historian at Palazzo Maffei, emphasized the importance of treating artworks with care. As the museum continues to foster an appreciation for art, Carlon hopes that this incident won't overshadow the respect most visitors show. She champions a message that art should be cherished, for it is often "very fragile."
