In brief
After experiencing severe headaches, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent emergency surgery to relieve bleeding in his skull, believed to be connected to a fall he had in October. Medical officials stated the procedure was "uneventful," and Lula is now stable, communicating and eating normally. He will remain under observation for a few days as he recuperates in the intensive care unit of a São Paulo hospital.
Lula was admitted with significant headaches and flu-like symptoms, leading to an MRI that revealed an intracranial hemorrhage. The surgery, which lasted about two hours, did not affect his brain function, according to the doctors. Dr. Roberto Kalil reassured the public that Lula is showing positive signs of recovery and is expected to return to his duties soon.
