The International Criminal Court (ICC) is initiating an independent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan. This action was confirmed on Monday by Paivi Kaukoranta, the head of the international assembly that supervises the court. Khan is recognized for pursuing arrest warrants for senior leaders of both Israel and Hamas regarding actions taken during the Gaza war. In his response, Khan indicated that he was aware of the investigation and requested his deputies to handle the matter internally. He expressed readiness to engage in the process. Reports surfaced last month detailing claims of harassment made by a former female colleague, which Khan has denied. Initially, the court had not moved forward with the investigation after conversations with the accuser. However, following further developments, the ICC decided to commission an external body to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry. Khan previously stated that the court found no basis for an investigation since the alleged victim declined that option, labeling the accusations as disinformation.
