In brief
The first all-women space mission will include several influential women, marking a significant moment in space history.
Katy Perry is poised to make headlines as she joins an all-women flight aboard Blue Origin's New Shepherd rocket this spring. The pop icon will share the spacecraft with notable figures, including Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos's fiancée, journalist Gayle King, ex-NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn. This mission is especially historic as it’s the first all-female space flight since Valentina Tereshkova's solo mission in 1963. While the exact launch date remains under wraps, Blue Origin has indicated it will happen before Perry's Lifetimes Tour, which spans from April 23 to November 11. Expressing her excitement, Perry stated, “If you had told me I’d be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would have believed you.” The upcoming flight, designated NS-31, will mark the 11th human spaceflight for the New Shepherd rocket. The mission promises to last roughly 11 minutes, reaching the Karman line, recognized as the edge of space, using an autonomous system with no pilots. Lauren Sanchez has been instrumental in organizing the mission, which she believes will inspire future generations. She initially revealed her dream of an all-female crew in a Vogue interview in 2023.This extraordinary event adds to the list of celebrities venturing into outer space, joining the ranks of Jeff Bezos, Michael Strahan, and William Shatner. With this mission, the journey into space is becoming more accessible and inspirational for women everywhere!
