WASHINGTON (AP) — Following months of intense immigration enforcement by the Trump administration, a significant majority of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) adults now express disapproval of President Trump’s handling of immigration policy, according to a recent AAPI Data/AP-NORC poll.

Approximately 70% of AAPI adults across the nation disapprove of Trump’s tactics regarding immigration, up from 58% in March. The research highlights that many AAPI adults believe Trump has overstepped regarding deportations, particularly criticizing tactics involving military and National Guard in arrest operations.

This growing dissatisfaction comes amid recent escalations in immigration crackdowns, such as the arrest of over 1,000 immigrants in Chicago alone. As immigration remains a contentious topic, many AAPI individuals, including those who are foreign-born and potentially more conservative, are voicing their disapproval of Trump's stringent measures, fearing for their own or their loved ones’ statuses.

The polling results indicate widespread concern among AAPI respondents, with statements reflecting deep anxiety over Trump's stringent policies - some likening current experiences to historical injustices faced by communities in the past. The survey's outcomes reflect a broader shift in perceptions regarding immigration policy, signaling an increasingly critical stance from AAPI communities.
