In a surprising move, the Colosseum in Rome has partnered with Airbnb to allow a few lucky individuals to experience life as a gladiator at the legendary arena. This event, set to take place over two nights in May, invites 32 participants to learn gladiator techniques from history enthusiasts. Many locals, however, are taking issue with the idea.

The controversial partnership aims to support the Colosseum's conservation efforts, with Airbnb committing $1.5 million to enhance a permanent exhibit within the site. The goal? To educate and inspire visitors about the rich history of ancient Rome.

Yet, prominent Romans are voicing strong objections. Massimiliano Smeriglio, a member of Rome's City Council overseeing cultural affairs, argues that this initiative treats the Colosseum like a theme park. He plans to meet with Airbnb to discuss these concerns. The movement showcases the delicate balance between heritage preservation and modern entertainment.
