Russian drones blew up the Starokozache border crossing, about 500 km south of Kyiv. Two people were killed and the checkpoint was shut, with cars charred and debris scattered across the road.
The closure cut off a critical trade link for Ukraine, which is now backed by a Moldovan driver’s injury. Moldovan officials say they’ve seen 17 drones hit their territory just in August.
Not far away, Ukrainian drones hit the Russian port of Novorossiysk, killing four, including a child, and injuring 29 others. Residents suffered damage to homes, a church and a preschool.
Russian forces say they shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight—a record, according to their defense ministry. As both sides keep striking far‑ranging targets, diplomatic talks have stalled.
Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky urges international aid and condemnation of these attacks. He says the aggression must stop “here and now” to prevent further spread.
