British Couple Rescued from Spanish Wildfire
A British couple were found wounded in a ravine after a wildfire scorched Spain’s Almeria province.
The firefighters and Civil Guard recovered them early on Friday, with 40% of their bodies severely burned. They’re now in intensive care in a local hospital.
The blaze, triggered by a heatwave that pushed temperatures to 40°C (104°F), destroyed 6,600 hectares (16,300 acres) of land and killed 12 people, including four Britons. Authorities are still identifying the dead.
Firefighters are making progress as winds calm and humidity rises, easing the fight to contain the flames. Around 600 evacuees can return to their homes in the region.
