Father jailed after threatening French teacher in village
A man from Le Fauga, a tiny town near Toulouse, was sentenced to six months in prison after threatening a primary school teacher who had sent his son to a different class.
The case went straight to a fast‑track hearing in the Toulouse courthouse, where the father faced justice. The teacher received official protection and went on sick leave.
Education minister Edouard Geffray said the incident shows that “attacking one of them is attacking the entire institution”, and it may be the first use of a new law passed last year that gives schools a way to protect staff from risks posed by student family members.
The case has also revived memories of the 2020 murder of history teacher Samuel Paty outside a Paris suburb, reminding everyone of how dangerous it can be to stand up for education.
Local schools closed their doors the next day out of fear, and students in Le Fauga may soon be relocated to a different kindergarten to ensure safety.
