In an emotional revelation, Eric Dane, known for his roles in HBO's Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy, has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. The 52-year-old actor shared with People that he is "grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter." Despite this diagnosis, Dane is keen to return to filming Euphoria next week and has requested privacy for himself and his loved ones.
Dane, who portrays Cal Jacobs—a key character in the hit series Euphoria—also made a name for himself as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy and has appeared in shows like Charmed and The Last Ship. He is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and they share two children.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, primarily affects motor neurons in the brain and spine, leading to progressive muscle paralysis. Symptoms often start with twitching or weakness in the limbs and may lead to difficulties in speaking, eating, and breathing. While there is currently no cure for ALS, patients typically live for three to five years following their diagnosis, although some can survive for much longer.
