NORTH CODORUS, Pa. (AP) — On Wednesday, a tragic shooting incident occurred during a police response to a domestic-related investigation in southern Pennsylvania, resulting in the deaths of three officers and leaving two others critically injured. The shooter was killed during the confrontation.

As the community came to terms with the loss, individuals gathered to pay respects, saluting as police vehicles formed a procession to the coroner’s office.

Governor Josh Shapiro described the event as a tragic loss of life while Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the acts of violence against police, calling them a societal scourge. It’s reported to be one of the deadliest days for law enforcement in Pennsylvania in the 21st century, evoking memories of a similar ambush in 2009.

Family members of the fallen officers expressed their pride in their loved ones even as they mourned their sudden loss. The investigation will focus on multiple locations in York County as officials attempt to piece together what led to the violence.
