In a jaw-dropping incident off the coast of Chilean Patagonia, 23-year-old Adrián Simancas experienced a dramatic encounter with nature. While enjoying a day of packrafting with his father, Deli Simancas, just a few yards apart near the San Isidro Lighthouse, the duo found themselves in the midst of a breathtaking moment when a humpback whale lunged from beneath the waves.
Adrián was suddenly enveloped by the enormous creature, describing the sensation as being “in something’s mouth.” He recounted, “I felt something hit me from behind — all this happened in a second… then I started to sink.” As panic set in, he instinctively closed his eyes, expecting the worst.
However, not long after, the life jacket brought him back to the surface, and he reappeared along with his kayak-sized vessel. His father captured the entire spectacle on video, showcasing the massive whale breaching the water’s surface just after the scary moment.
The location, renowned for its natural wonders including sea lions and black eagles, served as a picturesque backdrop to this extraordinary event. Both Adrián and his father emphasized that they were using inflatable crafts, which might have aided in this narrow escape. Despite the intensity of the encounter, the experience left them with a wild story to tell and a video that’s sure to captivate onlookers!
