A nor'easter churned its way up the East Coast on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and powerful winds. New Jersey declared a state of emergency as meteorologist Bob Oravec anticipated major coastal flooding, especially from northeastern North Carolina up through New Jersey. With parts of the state facing up to 5 inches of rain and gusts reaching 60 mph, local volunteers are already preparing by placing sandbags on beaches. A coastal flood warning is also in effect for New York City and surrounding areas, where flight delays and cancellations are beginning to accumulate from Washington, D.C. to Boston. The storm is predicted to move out by Monday night, but not before making its impact felt across the region.
