The Vatican has released a new rite for Mass called the “Mass for the Care of Creation,” aimed at encouraging believers to seek divine support in environmental protection. This initiative showcases Pope Leo XIV's dedication to upholding the ecological ethos established by Pope Francis, particularly influenced by the 2015 encyclical "Laudato Si’." Cardinal Michael Czerny highlighted that this Mass serves as a liturgical and communal framework for appreciating nature, emphasizing the urgency of environmental justice.
Pope Leo XIV also voiced his concerns for the ecological crises facing the planet and indicated that environmental justice is now an immediate necessity. Earlier, he called for a special day of prayer on September 1st focused on caring for creation. The Mass originated from a request to provide a dedicated liturgical celebration aligned with the principles of "Laudato Si’," responding to the pressing need for environmental mindfulness in the global community.
