In brief

Dubai Municipality achieved ISO 14064‑1 certification on 5 November 2026, becoming the first organization in the Middle East to meet the global standard for quantifying greenhouse‑gas emissions. The certification reinforces transparent environmental data, strengthens governance, and supports Dubai’s sustainability goals. The move will help the municipality track emissions, improve resource use, and guide future climate initiatives.

Dubai Municipality in Dubai announced on 5 November 2026 that it has earned ISO 14064‑1 certification, becoming the first entity in the Middle East to meet the global standard for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions.

ISO 14064‑1 provides a structured approach to identify emissions sources, set reporting boundaries, collect data, and build reliable inventories. By adopting this framework, Dubai Municipality can reliably document its environmental impact and share that information with stakeholders.

The certification shows the municipality’s commitment to transparent data and stronger climate governance. It will improve the consistency of its environmental reports, help the city better plan for emissions reduction, and support its broader sustainability targets.

Eng. Nasser BuShehab, CEO of the Planning and Governance Sector, said: “Achieving conformity with ISO 14064‑1 represents an important advancement in our approach to institutional governance and environmental performance.”

With new technical capabilities, the municipality can assess environmental impacts more effectively, spot improvement opportunities, and design targeted projects that boost resource efficiency and cut emissions. This certification also aligns Dubai’s local efforts with national climate action plans, demonstrating how institutional governance can drive sustainable development.
