Euphoria star Eric Dane, aged 52, has recently shared that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a form of motor neurone disease (MND). He spoke with People, stating, "I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week." Dane emphasized the importance of his family's support during this challenging time but requested privacy for himself and his family as they navigate this new phase of life.
Dane portrays Cal Jacobs in the popular HBO series Euphoria, which is set to begin production on its third season soon. Previously, he gained recognition as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy and has appeared in hits such as Charmed and The Last Ship, along with notable films including Marley & Me and Burlesque. He is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and they have two children together.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, leads to progressive paralysis and affects motor nerve cells in the brain and spine. Initial symptoms often include twitching or weakness in limbs, along with slurred speech. While there is currently no cure, the average life expectancy after diagnosis ranges from three to five years, though some may live longer. The NHS cautions that around 90% of MND patients are diagnosed with the mixed ALS type.
