A Russian drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has killed at least one person and injured seven others, city officials say.

Early on Saturday morning, residential buildings in several districts were hit, and loud explosions could be heard across the city.

Kyiv's mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed that a 13-year-old child was among the injured and that four people had been hospitalized.

This strike comes shortly after another attack earlier in the week that claimed seven lives. The bombardment coincides with ongoing negotiations between Ukrainian officials and US representatives regarding a revised peace plan.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, stated that the strike targeted 'multiple locations on the capital's outskirts'. Rescuers have confirmed the recovery of one body from the Sviatoshynskyi district.

Most of the injured were reported in Brovary, with missiles and drones striking residential areas. Klitschko noted fires were ignited in a high-rise apartment building in western Kyiv.

The latest attacks highlight the ongoing strain in negotiations as President Donald Trump urges both sides towards acceptance of a draft peace plan, amidst Russia's insistence on territorial demands as a condition for ceasefire.

As conditions become more precarious, Ukrainian President Zelensky aims for meaningful discussions with US negotiators to ensure peace and security for Ukraine.
