After a two-month absence sparked by her 84-year-old mother’s apparent abduction, Savannah Guthrie will return to NBC’s “Today” show next month, saying in an interview that aired Friday, 'joy will be my protest.'
Hoda Kotb shared that Guthrie will be back on April 6. Guthrie admits that returning to a place of joy and lightness feels daunting, but she is determined to try. 'I know I can’t return pretending to be someone I’m not; I have to be real, and my joy will be my answer,' said Guthrie.
Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1, believed to have been abducted under suspicious circumstances. The FBI released surveillance footage of a masked person near her Tucson home around the time Nancy disappeared. The Guthrie family is actively seeking information and has offered a $1 million reward for leads in the case.
During the interview with Kotb, Guthrie elaborated on her family’s concern, highlighting that they knew this wasn’t a situation where Nancy wandered off. Suspicious signs, such as propped doors and blood outside her home, indicated something was seriously wrong.
Guthrie continues to advocate for her mother’s safe return, stating, 'I want to smile, and when I do, it will be real. I believe part of my purpose right now is to spread joy.'
