A court in Kosovo has sentenced two Kosovo Serbs to life imprisonment and another to a 30-year jail term for taking part in what it described as a 'terrorist' attack in September 2023. The men were found guilty of violating Kosovo's constitutional order and inciting terrorist activities. The 'Banjska incident' marks one of the most dramatic and deadly days in Kosovo since its declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008, resulting in a police officer's death and three members of the armed group killed.

On Friday, the court in Pristina sentenced Vladimir Tolić and Blagoj Spasojević to life in prison, while Dušan Maksimović received a 30-year sentence. Kosovo's acting President welcomed the verdict, asserting it signifies that attacks on the police won't go unpunished. However, many questions remain about what transpired during the incident, especially regarding the involvement of Serbia's government.

The attack occurred when police responded to a blockade and were assaulted, leading to a standoff at a Serbian Orthodox monastery where the armed group eventually retreated. Authorities accuse Serbia of being complicit, with ongoing tensions between the two nations exacerbated by the incident.
