In a concerning turn of events, Russia has confirmed the identification of three suspects connected to the shooting of Lt Gen Vladimir Alexeyev, the second in command of the GRU military intelligence. The man accused of pulling the trigger is Lyubomir Korba, a Russian national allegedly dispatched to Moscow under the orders of Ukrainian intelligence to carry out a terrorist attack, a claim denied by Kyiv.

The incident occurred in a Moscow residential area, leaving Alexeyev in critical condition. After undergoing surgery, he is reportedly recovering well. Authorities are investigating the event and noted that Korba fled to the United Arab Emirates shortly after the attack but was later apprehended and extradited to Russia.

A silenced Makarov pistol was found at the scene, raising concerns about security among military officials in Russia, especially since this is not the first attack targeting high-ranking officers since the Ukraine conflict began. One accomplice has already been arrested and a woman believed to be involved has fled to Ukraine. While Ukrainian officials have denied any involvement, Russian officials have accused them of orchestrating the attack to derail ongoing peace talks.
