Three people died and 15 more were injured after powerful waves battered popular Spanish holiday island Tenerife.
A woman died after being pulled into the ocean near the Puerto de la Cruz resort, and a man died at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, reported emergency services on Sunday.
A third man was found dead in the ocean near a beach in Granadilla.
Emergency services have advised the public to stay away from coastal paths and to avoid taking pictures and videos of the rough seas as turbulent weather conditions persist.
Rescue services airlifted a man who fell into the water at La Guancha in the north of the island, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Another man died after being found floating near a beach at El Cabezo in the south; lifeguards were unable to resuscitate him.
In Puerto de la Cruz, one woman suffered a heart attack and another 10 people were swept out to sea, with three seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
Local waiter, Pedro, described his courageous attempt to save others: As soon as I saw a man waving at me, I jumped into the water and managed to grab three of them. I couldn't save the woman because she passed away at that moment.
Eyewitness Carlos warned people taking photos to move away from the waves, yet they did not heed his advice. Officials have placed the Canary Islands on alert for coastal hazards, warning that sea conditions may worsen with swells reaching two-to-four meters, urging extreme caution for both tourists and locals.
