The White House is set to build a stunning new ballroom worth $200 million (£151 million), a dream of President Donald Trump that is finally coming to fruition. Scheduled to start construction this September, the new ballroom will be constructed alongside a revamped East Wing, which is home to First Lady Melania Trump's office and important administrative roles.

The financial backing for this ambitious project will come from Trump himself, along with yet-to-be-named donors. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the project as a "much needed and exquisite addition" that will accommodate around 650 guests, a significant increase from the East Room’s current capacity of approximately 200.

This new venue aims to eliminate the awkward and "unsightly" large tents that have been a common sight on the South Lawn during major events, like state dinners that involve global leaders. Notably, construction is slated to be finished well ahead of Trump's term conclusion in January 2029.

With its architectural design intended to match the existing aesthetic of the White House, the ballroom is set to feature stunning chandeliers and ornate columns. President Trump has long expressed interest in a ballroom, even offering to contribute $100 million for the project back in 2016 during Barack Obama's presidency, though that had been dismissed at the time.

Chief of Staff Susie Wiles emphasized the administration's commitment to preserving the rich history of the White House, stating, "The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserve the special history."

In light of these developments, it's clear that changes are on the horizon at the White House, with plans for a ballroom that could serve future administrations for generations to come. As Trump remarked at a recent event, "I'm good at building things," showcasing his determination to leave a legacy through architectural enhancements.
