At least seven people have been killed and more than 30 injured when a 14‑year‑old boy opened fire at his home and a local branch of Debsirin School on the outskirts of Bangkok. The gunman first murdered his grandparents and then shot five teachers before turning the gun on himself.

Nine of the injured are in a critical state, according to authorities. Police say the shooter’s shots were strikingly accurate, hitting vital spots on victims.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described the attack as “well prepared” and lamented that “this shouldn’t have happened.” He echoed the government’s stance that civilians should not possess firearms and called for stricter enforcement.

Thailand has strict gun laws but still sees a high rate of illegal arms, with roughly 40% of civilian weapons unregistered. The community has responded by shutting down nearby schools and posting a call for blood donations.
