SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A shooting outside a church building in Salt Lake City has tragically resulted in two deaths and six injuries. The incident occurred on Wednesday during a funeral service and appears to stem from a dispute between people who were attending. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before rushing outside to help the victims.

Five of the injured individuals are still hospitalized, some in critical condition, and local police continue to investigate the matter. Chief Brian Redd confirmed that officers are reviewing surveillance footage and license plate records from around the area to track potential suspects.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which owns the church where the shooting took place, has expressed condolences for those affected. Their spokesperson stated, We extend prayers for all who have been impacted by this tragedy and express deep concern that any sacred space intended for worship should be subjected to violence of any kind.

City Mayor Erin Mendenhall has also condemned the act, highlighting the inappropriateness of violence outside a place of worship. As the community grapples with this shocking event, locals are encouraged to support one another during this difficult time.
