ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — A tragic shooting incident unfolded at South Carolina State University, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving one person injured. The university's Orangeburg campus went into a lockdown mode around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday evening after reports of gunfire. This lockdown lasted approximately eight hours, being lifted around 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Eyewitness Kaya Mack, who had just finished a food delivery, recounted hearing multiple gunshots and observing a considerable police presence. 'Their loud sirens kind of shook me,' she reported, expressing uncertainty about the source of the shots.

University officials have not yet released the names of the victims or the condition of the injured person, but they have made counseling services available for students in need. Additionally, all classes scheduled for Friday have been canceled as a precautionary measure. As investigations continue, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been tasked with looking into the details of this unfortunate event.
