VERO BEACH, Fla. - A gunman who killed a Florida deputy last week died on Saturday from injuries received in the confrontation, authorities say. Michael Halberstam, 37, shot two Indian River County deputies and a locksmith when they were serving an eviction notice at a home near Vero Beach. Officer Terri Sweeting-Mashkow lost her life in the gunfire, while another deputy is in recovery and the locksmith remains in critical condition. Despite previous disturbance calls from the home, deputies did not anticipate trouble during the eviction. Following the incident, Sweeting-Mashkow was posthumously promoted to sergeant, leaving a profound impact on her team.
